David Drettwan is a 25 year old baritone hailing from Elkhorn, Wisconsin. He is the baritone in the 2025-26 Baumgartner studio artist program at Florentine Opera in Milwaukee, where he will be singing the roles of Masetto (Don Giovanni), Crespel (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), and Sciarrone (Tosca) this season. He made his professional debut in the 2022 world-premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning new opera Omar by Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels at Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, SC. He was an apprentice artist at Central City Opera in 2024 singing Jake Wallace in La Fanciulla del West by Puccini. Past collegiate roles include Eugene Onegin (Eugene Onegin), Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Harry (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay), King Arkel (Pelléas et Melisande), Sam (Trouble in Tahiti), Melisso (Alcina), and Keeper/Father Trulove (The Rake’s Progress), as well as workshop performances of Gianni Schicchi (Gianni Schicchi) and a new opera by Martin Hennessey titled Swimming in the Dark as Janusz at Key West studios..
